Happy Ammo Day
Happy Ammo Day, Merry Bullets and a good day on the firing range to all. Here is one holiday that I can get behind and avoid my normal holiday gloom. In the spirit of the day, I helped a friend to buy some ammo by buying a rifle from him. It was a win-win situation, he got cash to buy ammo with and I got another Mosin Nagant 91/30. I swear those old Russian rifles are addictive. The guns themselves are cheap and the ammo isn't bad either. I found a place where I can get 1200 rounds for $300.
Now at that price, it's hard to justify "rolling your own" on a cost basis. It was the vision of not being able to buy any "military" ammo that convinced me to buy a Lee classic loader and a case trimmer. I have about 300 rounds of box primed ammo to provide brass and I bought 1000 bullets. Next stop is primers, powder, and a powder scale and I'm ready to get started.
It's been 30 years since I first did any reloading and that was mostly shotgun shells. I was eight and my dad put me work reloading. I reloaded ammo for eight years and nobody got killed and I still have all my fingers. It's all a matter of being very careful and not being stupid. I've loaded "hot" loads for my dad's .41 Magnum ( yes there is such a critter), but that was in a fairly new Ruger Blackhawk, not a WWII era rifle. I will not try that with the 7.62x54r that I'm shooting.
Now before I sign off and get back to work, let me mention that this day is special for me for other reasons as well. On this day four years ago, I got down on one knee and asked my future wife to marry me. She said yes and made me a very happy man. Four years later I would still ask her to marry me and she says that she would still say yes. Love you baby.
